Bohorok is only small part of the 9000 square kilometer or 900.000 heactare of Mount Leuser National Park.
The magnificent rainforest of this park have become famous throughout the wold as the harbor some of the most endangered and rare spescies on the earth for exaple Sumateran Rhinoceros, Orang utan and Rafflesia the largest flower in the wold. The park is inhabited by animals like the great Argus Pheasant,elephant, Sumatran tiger,and as many as seven species of primates one of which is Siamang Which has an impressive, far reaching vocal display. The agile and pretty face thomas leaf monkey an long tailed macaques are also commoly seen.
In total the park lists 285 species of bird, 90 of mamals, reptil and 35 of amphibians. The park frola contains some 3500 plant species and on each hectare of the lowland forest you can find amazing 60 - 130 tree species.
Geological there are several limestone formation along the foothills of the mountins, some with the beutiful caves long ago the were coral reeps wichh have since been uplifted from the sea at rate of few milimeters per year by the proses of colliding ocean floors drifting continents. These infitely slow collision and the wnormous forces involved have led to the formation of high mountain and volcanics zones, Only some 1800 year ago, during glacial time. The peak of the park Mt. Leuser, Mt. Kemiri and others, were still covered by glacier snow and ice sea level at the time was more than 80 m lower than at present and the islands of Sumatera, Java, Borneo then formed one huge land mass which wash conneted via Malaysia to the Asian Mainland.
